  • Difficulty: The walk uphill the castle through the cobbled streets may take 15-20 minutes. The round walk is approx 1.8km - 1hour. Not wheelchair accessible There are taxis availible to the castle, which can be paid on the spot
 
Part of UNESCO Heritage Medieval Towns, Berat Castle is a fortress dates from the 13th century and contains many Byzantine churches, Ottoman mosques, 24 towers, acropolis and water cisterns, enriched with typical houses in the numerous cobble stone alleys. It is built on a rocky hill on the left bank of the river Osum and is accessible only from the south of the castle. To be visited: Onufri Iconographic Museum, situated inside the Dormition of St. Mary Cathedral; King's Mosque & Sufi Helveti Tekke Take some wonderful pictures of Mangalemi and Gorica quarters

The Onufri Iconographic Museum is an Albanian national museum dedicated to Byzantine art and iconography in Berat, Albania. The museum is located inside the Church of the Dormition of St Mary in the castle quarter Berat. The museum was named to honor Onufri, a painting Headmaster of the 16th century.The museum features on display 173 objects chosen among 1500 objects belonging to the found of Albanian Churches and Monasteries as well as to Berat
